Photo share #31: Ginger Cain of Evanston sent us this photo of Elsie Mae and Jon Cain along with Search & Rescue K9 Nala and her handler Greg. Ginger says of this photo: “This was taken on March 7th, 2020. Daviess Co Ky Search and Rescue team held a mock search and training at LSP. My husband Jon and youngest daughter Elsie were 2 of our ‘lost victims’ for the day. My dog Sawyer is training for Search and Rescue in both Spencer Co IN and Daviess Co Ky, but in this particular picture, I was running back up for my team mate Greg and his dog Nala!” #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
We’re definitely not done sharing your photos, but we’ve now shared around 30 photos since we started this at the beginning of the stay-at-home order. If you’d like to take a look at them again, we’ve posted them all in one place on our website so go check them out! This photo is another beach photo from times gone by. Notice in the background how high the firetower extends above the trees. The trees are quite a bit taller today! #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#funatthebeach
Photo share #27: From the Lincoln State Park archives…a summer scene at the beach in 1964. The beach was a very popular summer spot in decades past. Anyone else have an old beach photo to share? #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#funatthebeach
Photo share #26: Bill Phillips of Santa Claus sent us another photo from the snow and ice storm of January 2009. Quite a few trees and limbs went down as a result of that storm. Here’s hoping we avoid snowstorms and tornadoes for the rest of 2020. We have enough to worry about! #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo share #25: Former Lincoln State Park seasonal naturalist David Ayer is a talented photographer of all things flora and fauna, especially birds. He often visits the park with his Olympus om-d m1 camera. David captured this photo recently of a Northern Slimy Salamander in the park. Thanks to David for allowing us to share some of his work. We’ll sprinkle a few of his photos in as we share more of yours. #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo share #24: The lake at Lincoln SP provides endless photo ops especially when the sun is shining. Lane Ballard of Philpot, KY sent us this photo taken a few weeks ago. Lane says he and his girlfriend decided to drive to Lincoln for the day and walk the trails and enjoy the beautiful scenery. “I’ve been going to Lincoln to camp ever since I was a baby, and still many years later, I still love the beautiful sights at Lincoln.” #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo share #23: Ashley Lytle of Santa Claus sent us this photo of young friends enjoying the lake view in early March before the new phenomenon of social distancing was a thing. PLEASE practice social distancing and observe all guidelines and restrictions when visiting the park during this time…we want to see you back when this is over! #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo share #21: Cindy Bowman of Santa Claus sent us another photo she took recently which shows that spring is definitely in the air. We’re guessing this somewhere along Trail #2. #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #19: Linda Wilkinson of Chrisney (our treasurer) sent these two photos. The first is a scenic fall picture taken near the Lakeside Shelter. The second is the grave marker for Sarah Lincoln Grisby and her baby located in the Little Pigeon Cemetery off of Trail 5 between Troy Road picnic area and Lincoln Amphitheatre. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #17: William Biszmaier of Louisville, KY also sent us this photo he took looking up at the firetower from June 2017. You can reach the firetower by taking a short side loop off of Trail 1. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #16: Barb Castello of Evanston sent us this photo of her girls, Lauren and Olivia, from Jan. 5th. She says Lincoln State Park is their favorite place to get fresh air in the middle of winter. This spot is just off of Trail 1 near the family cabins. We still want to see more of your photos. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally — at Lincoln State Park.
Photo Share #15: Daniel Walters of Westerville, OH shared this photo with us of the beach on a bright summer day. Daniel says this photo brings back good memories of growing up in Lincoln City and going to the park almost every day in the summer. I bet someone out there has an old photo of the crowded beach from back in its heyday they could share with us. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
I’ve been enjoying seeing and sharing all of your Lincoln State Park photos. So, here is one of my own. This is a photo taken of me during the summer of 1991 (most likely) while I was working as a summer laborer at the park. This is at the Lincoln Amphitheatre and you’ll notice there weren’t as many trees there back then. I worked at the park at least part of 8 seasons during college and law school in the 1990’s. That time is a big part of my connection with the park. I’m so glad that I can continue to play a small role at the park through our Friends organization. The park and I have both changed a bit in the past 30 years! #lincolnstatepark#lincolnamphitheatre#indianastateparks
Photo Share #14: Chad Schnieders of Santa Claus sent us this adorable photo of his dogs Lulu (left) and Bear. Chad says this is one of his favorite photos because his dogs love being on the trails as much as he does. He let the dogs off their leash long enough to pose for this picture on Trail 4. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #12: This photo from Ray L. Kaetzel of Santa Claus taken along Trail 5 last summer has us pining for the arrival of summer and a little peacefulness and normalcy. We’re definitely enjoying seeing your photos, so keep them coming. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #11: John Mick II of Gentryville sent us this great looking photo he took while at the park. Fall often gives rise to some of the most beautiful and colorful photo opportunities. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #10: Cindy Bowman of Santa Claus submitted this fall 2019 photo snapped during a walk near the Lakeside shelter. Where is your favorite area to walk in Lincoln State Park? #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #9: Jennifer Lynn of Fishers sent us this autumn photo of the walking bridge near the beach and CCC cabin. Jennifer says, “I was walking around the lake with my boys and my parents (their grandparents), just like my parents did with me and my grandparents. Thirty years ago, I never imagined that I’d be sharing these same trails with kids of my own. I hope their memories will be as special as mine.” #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally
Photo Share #8: Interpretive Naturalist Michael Crews sent us this historical photograph showing Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers and their mules around 1934 constructing Buckhorn Lake…the precursor to Lake Lincoln that we know today. The lake was formed by damming Buckhorn Creek, but the original dam failed during the 1937 Ohio River flood and the larger lake present today was then reconstructed. Keep sending us YOUR favorite Lincoln State Park photos at the following the link. Hope everyone is enjoying them. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#civilianconservationcorps#indianaconservationcorps
Photo Share #7: William Biszmaier of Louisville, KY sent us this photo he took on Lake Lincoln in August 2017 on a day when the water was particularly clear. Send us YOUR favorite Lincoln State Park photo by following the link. Anyone have a pic of a special camping memory they want to share? #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
Photo Share #6: Ashley Lytle of Santa Claus sent us this gorgeous photo she took on a sunny, fall day along Trail 1 which runs around Lake Lincoln. Let’s keep this going! Photo Share #5: Beth Mason of Washington sent us this photo taken of her granddaughter Chloe from the top of the firetower while hiking on a beautiful sunny day in the park. The slogan is very true…Memories Made Naturally! #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
Interpretive Naturalist Michael Crews snapped these photos this morning of a beaver and a couple of common loons inside the park. He also informs us that the scheduled hikes for this weekend are still on. Meet at the Nature Center and plan on practicing social distancing. Obviously, if you are sick or have been exposed to someone who may be sick, please stay home. Be safe, be cautious, be prepared. You can view the schedule on our website here: https://lspfriends.com/index.php/events/
Photo Share #3: Don Nichols of Evansville submitted this photo taken during a day hike in January 2019 of the pedestrian bridge over the spillway to the dam. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
Photo Share #3: Bill Phillips of Santa Claus submitted these photos taken in January 2009 following a very memorable snow and ice storm. Notice the tree that fell on the campground gatehouse. Just an example of why the recent removal of pine trees from the campground became a safety necessity. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
Photo Share #2: Keith Cecil of Evansville sent us this photo taken from the dam in September 2019 after a hike to the fire tower and subsequent visit to the nature center while on a fall camping trip. Keith says the cloud formations captured his eye and inspired him to take the photo. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
Photo Share #1: Rose Terwiske of Jasper (and our Friends of LSP V-P) submitted this photo taken on November 1, 2015 of fog hovering over Lake Lincoln on a chilly morning. #lincolnstatepark#indianastateparks#campingmemories
