We’re revisiting our beach photos from earlier in the week for #tbt only this time we’ve included photos taken yesterday at the park from the same perspective for a little “now and then” comparison. For photo share #35 we have a then and now photo. The B&W photo was taken in 1936 of the Lakeside Shelter not long after its construction by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The color photo was taken of the same Lakeside Shelter earlier this evening. How’s that for quality construction?! For photo share #34 we give you another nature shot from David Ayer of Dutchman’s breeches he found at the Col. William Jones Home. Dutchman’s breeches is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the woods of eastern North America that blooms in the early spring from March to April. They derive their name from the white flowers that look like white breeches and depend on the bumblebee for cross-pollination…just one of many examples of the importance of bees. #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#nature

Ginger says of this photo: “This was taken on March 7th, 2020. Daviess Co Ky Search and Rescue team held a mock search and training at LSP. My husband Jon and youngest daughter Elsie were 2 of our ‘lost victims’ for the day. My dog Sawyer is training for Search and Rescue in both Spencer Co IN and Daviess Co Ky, but in this particular picture, I was running back up for my team mate Greg and his dog Nala!” #LincolnStatePark#indianastateparks#memoriesmadenaturally

I’ve been enjoying seeing and sharing all of your Lincoln State Park photos. So, here is one of my own. This is a photo taken of me during the summer of 1991 (most likely) while I was working as a summer laborer at the park. This is at the Lincoln Amphitheatre and you’ll notice there weren’t as many trees there back then. I worked at the park at least part of 8 seasons during college and law school in the 1990’s. That time is a big part of my connection with the park. I’m so glad that I can continue to play a small role at the park through our Friends organization. Jennifer says, “I was walking around the lake with my boys and my parents (their grandparents), just like my parents did with me and my grandparents. Thirty years ago, I never imagined that I’d be sharing these same trails with kids of my own. Photo Share #8: Interpretive Naturalist Michael Crews sent us this historical photograph showing Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers and their mules around 1934 constructing Buckhorn Lake…the precursor to Lake Lincoln that we know today. The lake was formed by damming Buckhorn Creek, but the original dam failed during the 1937 Ohio River flood and the larger lake present today was then reconstructed. Interpretive Naturalist Michael Crews snapped these photos this morning of a beaver and a couple of common loons inside the park. He also informs us that the scheduled hikes for this weekend are still on. Meet at the Nature Center and plan on practicing social distancing.
